CHARM cm - CHARM LDL-C Methodology

Overview

The CardioChek^® test systems (PA and Plus) provide rapid, laboratory-comparable lipid and glucose results at the point of care using small capillary blood samples from a fingerstick. Results for a full lipid panel are typically available in about 90 seconds, enabling immediate risk assessment and counselling.

What we Measure

With CardioChek® PA/Plus and PTS Panels® test strips, CharmCM can assess:

Total Cholesterol (TC)
HDL-Cholesterol (HDL-C)
Triglycerides (TG)
LDL-Cholesterol (LDL)
Glucose

These assays are validated for use on venous whole blood and fingertip capillary whole blood in professional healthcare settings.

Analytical Principle

CardioChek^® primarily employs reflectance photometry. After a drop of whole blood is applied, enzymes embedded within the dry-chemistry strip generate a colour change; the analyser measures the light reflected from the strip, and the intensity is proportional to analyte concentration.
For glucose on the Plus system, an electrochemical biosensor channel is also available.

Sample & Workflow (Point-of-Care)

Clean and prepare the fingertip; obtain a capillary sample
Insert strip and MEMo Chip (if not already present)
Apply the required small blood volume (typically ~40 µL, per test/strip)
The analyser times, processes, and displays results, usually within ~90 seconds for a lipid panel

Quality Control

CharmCM follows manufacturer recommendations for routine external controls and adheres to internal QC procedures. The analyser’s MEMo Chip-based calibration and built-in checks support consistent, traceable performance between strip lots.

Indications & Clinical Use

The system enables quick lipid/glucose profiling to support cardiovascular risk screening, treatment monitoring, and lifestyle counselling during a single visit—without sending samples to a central lab. Clinical decisions should consider the full patient context and prevailing guidelines.
