What is LDL-C?Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), often called “bad cholesterol”, can build up in the arteries and contribute to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. For many, lifestyle plays a role, but genetics is often a decisive factor. Genetic causes - Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH): mutations in genes such as LDLR, APOB or PCSK9 reduce the body’s ability to clear LDL from the blood, leading to significantly raised levels and a higher risk of early heart disease
